Downtown Apex: Things to Do

by Ellen Pitts

One of my favorite parts about Apex is the quaint downtown Apex district. And while it is small, it packed full of things to do on any day of the week!

Downtown Apex: Food and Drink

Salem Street Pub

Salem Street Pub is a pillar of downtown Apex. Even though it’s a pub, it’s very family friendly, like most things in Apex. People love their brussels sprouts and…their moonshine. It’s the south, right?

Common Grounds Coffee

Cozy up with a cappuccino in “the living room” of Apex…Common Grounds Coffee .Common Grounds serves coffee, dessert and ice cream year round. Because is it ever too cold for ice cream? And they are known for their fantastic and friendly baristas, who always make you feel at home.

The Spice and Tea Exchange

The Spice and Tea Exchange is a fun place to visit, especially if you’re not sure what to have for dinner. They have a wide assortment of loose leaf teas, but they also have a ton of unique seasoning mixes, from curries to cajun to burger blends. If you’re looking for something non-traditional, you’ll find that too. They have an espresso steak rub that sounds interesting. And if you discover a way to use the chocolate infused sea salt, let me know because I haven’t yet found something mixed with chocolate that I didn’t like.

Anna’s Pizza

Grab a slice at the infamous Anna’s. Anna’s sells pizzas by the slice or the whole pie. Their New York Style crust is ah-ma-zing! So crispy and chewy and folds over just the right way. Anna’s is not just pizza. They serve a full Italian menu.

Downtown Apex: Shopping

Alleyway Bookstore

What quaint downtown is complete without a good bookstore? Alleyway books is a wonderful little used book shop in downtown Apex. The owners are lovely and they have a great selection of used books in excellent condition. They also buy used books so if you’re bored of your current bookshelf, head on in to Alleyway and change things up!

Apex Outfitter and Board Co.

Plan your next adventure at Apex Outfitter and Board Co. Apex Outfitter is an action sports retailer. Apex’s close proximity to great trails like the American Tobacco Trail, Jordan Lake and Harris Lake, make it a great location for all your favorite outdoor sports like kayaking, Stand up Paddleboarding, hiking and biking. Apex Outfitter offers high quality apparel from popular brands like Patagonia, North Face and more.

The Doodling Bug

There are several boutiques in downtown Apex, but the Doodling Bug carries a little bit of everything. They carry clothing, beauty supplies, gifts, home decor and accessories. It’s a great place to go if you’re looking for a unique gift and can’t think of something perfect.

Downtown Apex: Activities

Halle Cultural Arts Center

Take a class or see a show at the Halle Cultural Arts Center. The Halle Cultural Arts Center offers a full range of cultural activities for preschool to seniors. A few of the offerings are Tai Chi, Zumba, and theatre, Robotics and parents night out. They also have live concerts, family dance nights, pizza and a movie night and much more!

Adventures in Bloom

Adventures in Bloom is part shopping, part socializing and part nurturing your creative side. They sell handmade jewelry along with other locally made items, but they also offer workshops in metal stamping, bracelet making and earring making.
